Rising Wisdom is a gentle, holistic, and humanistic space that is trauma-informed and LGBTQ+ inclusive, and invites anyone experiencing grief or loss to explore their emotions with tenderness and compassion.
Created from her personal experience of trauma, grief, recovery and post-traumatic growth, Rising Wisdom is the space that our founder Sophie Blackman-Smith wishes was available to her when she was overwhelmed by the death of her sister, and other traumatic life experiences.
After many years of looking outwards to find a way out of her pain, Sophie learned that it is only by quietening the outside world and connecting with our inner self that we can truly start to heal.
When we turn our attention inwards, through meditation, therapy, grief tending, or in circle, we can connect with our innate rising wisdom - a wisdom, a truth, a knowing, that inherently knows how to guide us, and invites a deeper and more loving connection with our true self.
'The only cure for grief is to grieve' - Earl Grollman
Whether you are grieving the death of a loved one, or navigating another significant loss such as the end of a relationship, anticipatory grief of death, divorce, job loss, or the impact of world events; grief and loss impacts us all at some point in our lives in a multitude of different ways.
Grief can feel so deeply overwhelming and through grief tending Sophie offers a gentle container for your grief to be held and nurtured.
The process of grief tending encourages you to grieve without haste or judgement, so that you can wholeheartedly connect with your emotions and feelings, and process the changes that loss gives rise to.
As a certified grief coach, Sophie provides a knowledgeable and experienced hand of support as you navigate your journey into, through and beyond grief and loss.
In ancient times, communities would gather in a non-hierarchical circle to share their stories. Whoever held the ceremonial stick or stone, known as the ‘talking piece’, would have the freedom to share their story uninterrupted.
They would not be offered any advice or guidance; simply given a platform to have their voice heard. This sacred art of circle allows us to be witnessed in our word, and as a result we can feel truly heard and gently held in our vulnerability.
Through our storytelling we find connection with one another, foster a sense of community, and connect with our rising wisdom.
Grief Circles are for people who are experiencing or living with grief- a tender place to share our experiences of grief and loss without judgement. Sophie also offers some unthemed Women's Circles, and Rainbow Circles for people in the LGBTQ+ community.
As an advanced circle facilitator Sophie provides both in-person and online circles, and for those seeking a deeper experience circle journeys are available that take place over several weeks or months.
In a world that is so busy and constantly connected, regular meditation practice may feel like an unachievable goal.
However, finding ways to integrate this practice into your life can be hugely beneficial as meditation gently slows the frequency of our brainwaves, resulting in calmness and clarity,
Starting small with just a few minutes a day and slowly building up to a routine practice can help integrate meditation into your life. and before too long these moments of pause become completely unmissable.
Having practiced meditation for two decades, meditation has been an instrumental part of Sophie's post-traumatic growth and something she shares with deep respect for the cultures from where it originates.
Sophie offers group online meditation courses and drop-in sessions, and leans on principles from Zen, Buddhist, and Sufi meditation.
When you think of hypnotherapy it is possible you conjure up thoughts of 'stage hypnosis', which you might be familiar with from TV shows.
Hypnotherapy is, in fact, a therapeutic modality used to connect with the subconscious mind to help manage difficult emotions and life experiences, and can be deeply helpful for processing the complex emotions that arise with grief and loss.
In a therapeutic hypnotherapy session you spend some time in consultation to help prepare the session to meet your needs. When ready, and with your consent, you are guided into a hypnotic state which feels similar to a guided meditation, during which you are offered suggestions that can help to facilitate behavioural and emotional change.
As a trainee hypnotherapist and psychotherapeutic counsellor Sophie will soon be offering these services. More information available soon.
